Newlands Golf Club was founded in 1910. For the first 15 years of its existence the Club was located in an area known as Robinhood, near Inchicore, about 4 miles south west of Dublin centre. During this period the club was known as the Robinhood Golf Club. While the course has been modified over the intervening years and most recently upgraded under the guidance of Jeff Howes Golf Design it still retains many of the trademark features of its original James Braid design and many of the trees that date back to the original layout of the Demesne in the 17th century.
Today the course is noted for its mature tree lined fairways, USPGA standard sand based greens and bunkers built with the latest Sports Crete technology. It is now rightly considered to be one of the finest parkland courses in the country.
Over the years the Club has hosted many major competitions including The Irish Professional Championship in 1976 and the GUI All Ireland Cups and Shields Finals in 2001. The clubhouse is considered one of the best appointed of Dublin golf clubs, aside from the beautifully manicured course Newlands offers a high level of practice facilities and creature comforts.
Located just eight miles south west of Dublin City Centre, Dublin City Golf Club is set in the beautiful valley of Glen Na Smól (the valley of the thrush) overlooking the lakes and the river Dodder. The course takes full advantage of this location and the views change at every turn.
The course was originally designed by the late Eddie Hackett, well known Irish golf architect, responsible for designing more golf courses in Ireland than any other, with redesign work by Frank Clarke, a well-known and accomplished golfer and artist. The course would be described as parkland and the layout has been dictated by the terrain.
The designers have taken full advantage of the varied terrain and produced great variety of golf holes with very few parallel holes. Players never get bored with a new challenge around every corner.
Dublin City Golf Club, although young in age, has been incredibly successful in interclub competitions over the last number of years with regional and all-Ireland titles already to their name.
The clubhouse is considered one of the best appointed of Dublin golf clubs, and has a staff dedicated to making your visit to Edmondstown Golf Club a memorable and enjoyable experience.
